In the spirit of Throwback Thursday I want to tell you about my favourite restaurant in the Cape Winelands, Waterkloof Wines‘ signature restaurant. As we drove up the Schapenberg Hills I was struck by the beauty of the juxtapose of the WaterKloof glass and concrete three storey structure against the Vineyards and its flora. The combinations of the concrete and the glass I was told is to align with the winemaking ethos of Honesty, Transparency and Authenticity. Once inside I was blown away by the views.
The food rivals the views in terms of visual delight and offers some of the best food and wine pairings I have had to date. Chef Czarnecki’s approach is to create seasonal dishes for the wine and not the other way round. I have had the degustation menu, which changes seasonally and it’s six courses made to perfectly match the wines.
These are a few of the dishes that featured on the December 2013 degustation menu I had.
If you’re visiting the Cape I would recommend adding this to your foodie list, it’s for the adventurous eaters and wine lovers!
Degustation menu is R500 excl. pairing and R600 including wine pairing, Go on Pair, it’s totally worth it!
