The Street Food Festival finally comes to Johannesburg on Saturday 1 August 2015 and I am one of the speakers at their Food Entrepreneur Conference.
What is street food? Street food is ready-to-eat food or drink sold in a street or other public place, such as a market or fair, by a hawker or vendor, often from a portable stall. While some street foods are regional, many are not, having spread beyond their region of origin. Most street foods are also classed as both finger food and fast food, and are cheaper on average than restaurant meals. According to a 2007 study from the Food and Agriculture Organization, 2.5 billion people eat street food every day. Source http://www.capetownstreetfoodfestival.co.za/2
What is the Street Food Festival? Started in Cape Town, this festival is a showcase for local street food cuisine, a platform for street food entrepreneurs and a way to preserve age old cultural traditions. The festival has a few parts to it a full day food entrepreneur conference and a street food dinner for which you need to buy tickets to attend. Otherwise you can always just come by and enjoy some street food from the vendors including The Counter who have the best burgers & brownies in Jozi.
You can buy tickets and get full details for the street food dinner and the food entrepreneur conference at Quicket here
