I was introduced to Spier Creative Block 5 at the Spier Secret pop up dinner I hosted, where I served up a seven colours dinner and Spier paired the Creative Block range with the dinner. This week in particular we’ve had the Creative Block 5 with quite a few meals, our Sunday supper of spicy lamb chops, Wednesday lamb ribetjies with chili jam glaze and our Saturday lunch of shrimp & calamari chili stir fry.
The Creative Block 5 2012 is a tasty easy drinking red blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. It’s a lush red, tastes of black fruit, chalky and mineral, but does taste a slight bit young… to me. It pairs really well with lamb and stews, I’ve served it with lamb shank stew, grilled lamb chops and broiled lamb ribbetjies. It also to my surprise is wonderful with spicy dishes and spicy seafood dishes like the Simply Asia Phuket stir fry.
It’s spectacular with moist biltong. The boyfie and I have decided we’re buying a case to keep for 2 years and then it will be even more sublime.
