I was quite intrigued by the name of this egg eatery Eggslut when I was in LA last July. I stumbled across Eggslut on Joy Cho’s blog Oh Joy! (visit her blog here) It’s my go to blog for all things LA eats related. I love an egg about as much as the next man, but a very specific egg. I prefer a soft, bright yellow, slightly runny yolk or a moist low and slow scrambled egg to be precise. Alvin (co-owner of Eggslut) true love for the egg inspired Eggslut, founded in 2011.
Back to Eggslut which is in inside the bustling Grand Central Market in downtown Los Angeles. I started with the slut a coddled egg top of smooth potato puree, poached in a glass served with two slices of a toasted baguette. This dish is wholesome, comforting yet so light and sexy in the glass. The lightly seasoned smooth, perfectly smooth in fact, potato puree is perfect base for the rich yolk that runs into the potato with each spoonful you have. Turning simple staples potao and egg into something unexpected and beautiful! Perfect dish to show that egg is more than just breakfast food, which is Eggslut’s mission.
Because one bite is never enough for me, I also had the cheeseburger, ground american wagyu beef, caramelized onions, bread and butter pickles, melty cheddar cheese, and dijonnaise, topped with an over medium egg in a warm brioche bun. Delicious! Gentleman you’ll be well satisfied with this burger.
If you’re in LA looking for no fuss, comfort I highly recommend you become an egg slut. I do wish I had space for the Bacon, Egg and Cheese sandwich, because I do love a piece of crispy bacon, alas I’ll have to save that for next time!
